NewsBites - Term 3, Week 10, 2024

Dear Faith Lutheran College community

Last night we had the pleasure of celebrating our wonderful Year 12 students at their Senior Formal.

Events such as this are a powerful way to acknowledge the growth, development and potential of our graduating cohort.

I commend our Year 12 students for their hard work, commitment and maturity and wish them every success as they embark on their final assessments in Term 4.

We look forward to celebrating them at more special events over the coming months.

Many thanks to the staff members, led by Graduate Phase Head of Wellbeing Emma Saal and Phase Administrative Coordinator, Mrs Jenelle Hobbs, for their commendable work in making this year’s Senior Formal a fitting occasion for our Year 12 students.

As we look towards Term 4, our Deputy Principal Tyson Kenny will be taking some well-deserved long service leave.

While Mr Kenny is on leave, the following staff changes will take place in Term 4:

  • Mrs Jen Gibb will be Acting Deputy Principal
  • Mrs Lisbeth Goldston will step into the Acting Director of Teaching and Learning position
  • Ms Beck Smith will be the Acting Head of Learning for Foundation Phase (Year 7)

Thank you for a wonderful term – I wish you and your family a restful holiday and look forward to seeing you all again for an exciting Term 4.

Yours in Christ,
Doug Braiden
College Principal

Enrolments Update

Here is a quick update on important enrolment matters for current Faith families.

Year 7, 2026
We are commencing interviews for students entering Year 7 in 2026 over the September holidays and will continue to interview between now and the end of the year.

Any families with a child in Year 5 who have not submitted an enrolment application are encouraged to do so as a matter of urgency.

Don't leave it to chance - we have had instances where current families have ended up on the waitlist due to leaving the application until the year prior to commencing.

Now is the time to get your child's name on the list.

Primary School - 2027 and beyond
We have been humbled by the strong interest in our primary school commencing in 2027. Thank you to everyone who has already submitted an application for 2027 and beyond.

If you have a child who is currently in Years 2 or 3 and you'd like to get their name on the list for Years 5 or 6 in 2027, please submit an application now for peace of mind.

There will only be three classes for each year level and while it's our priority to look after current families, we cannot hold a space for a child if we do not have an application form for them.

Click here to find out more about Faith's primary school.

If you have any questions about enrolments, please contact the Enrolments department by emailing enrolments@faithlcs.qld.edu.au.

Rest and Recharge: Why the Holidays Matter for Your Success

The holidays are finally here—time to put down the laptops, step away from homework, and take a well-deserved break. But before you dive into those extra hours of gaming or endless TikTok scrolling, let’s talk about why rest is just as important as fun.

School can be *intense*. Between juggling homework, assessments, and extracurricular activities, your brain and body are constantly working hard. Think of the holidays as your recharge time —just like your phone needs to be plugged in after a long day, so do you!

Resting properly doesn’t just help you feel better; it actually prepares you to be more focused, energised, and motivated when the new term begins. When you’re well-rested, your brain works better, making it easier to take on new challenges, learn new things, and perform at your best.

How to Rest Like a Pro

  1. Sleep Well, Feel Well
Sleeping in might feel awesome, but getting consistent sleep—about 8-10 hours a night—will help you wake up refreshed and ready for the day. Sleep is like fuel for your brain and body, so the more quality sleep you get, the better you’ll feel.
  2. Take a Break from Screens
We know, it’s hard to step away from your favourite shows or games, but too much screen time can actually tire out your brain. Instead, try mixing it up with some offline activities. Go outside, read a book, or spend time with friends and family. Your brain will thank you for the variety!
  3. Do What You Love
The holidays are the perfect time to do what makes you happy—whether it’s playing sports, creating art, or exploring a new hobby. Doing things that you enjoy boosts your mood and helps you feel more relaxed.
  4. Reflect and Reset
Take a few moments to think about the past term. What went well? What would you like to improve on? Setting some simple goals for the next term can help you feel more prepared and motivated when school starts again.

Get Ready to Come Back Strong!

While it's tempting to fill every second of your holidays with fun, don’t forget to take it slow sometimes. Finding the right balance between rest and play will help you come back to school feeling recharged and ready to tackle new challenges.

So, as you enjoy the holidays, remember: resting now = success later. Take care of yourself, relax, and we’ll see you next term with fresh energy and new adventures to conquer! 😊

Enjoy your break!

Exploration Phase Update: Celebrating Community and Looking Ahead

As we wrapped up the term, the Exploration Phase participated in a variety of activities that fostered both community spirit and personal growth. Wednesday marked a special day with RUOK Day and the Longest Lutheran Lunch. Students enjoyed a fun-filled afternoon, with highlights including an inflatable obstacle course and archery tag, which brought plenty of smiles and laughter to the day.

We also held an exciting House competition event, where students showcased their school spirit and teamwork in Tug of War, Dodgeball, and Trivia. The competition brought out some friendly rivalry and was a fantastic way to finish the term with energy and enthusiasm.

Earlier this week, Mr Hallas’ Real Estate Matters class hosted guest speaker Mark Elphinstone from Elf Realty. Mark, who has experience with property development and running his own real estate business in Hatton Vale, shared his valuable insights with the students, providing them with a unique perspective on the industry.

Looking ahead to next term, we are excited to commemorate the College’s 25th Anniversary with a special Relay for Life event. This 13-hour event will take place on Friday 11 October (9am to 10pm), and we are encouraging students to sign up and be part of this milestone celebration. To sign up or donate, visit our Relay for Life page: https://www.relayforlife.org.au/event/qld-flc-mini-relay-2024/

The Relay for Life event features a Remembrance Ceremony, which will take place at 7pm. During this candlelight vigil, we will be projecting photos, messages and prayers dedicated to those who have been affected by cancer. To come together as a community, we hope to engage as many members of the wider Faith community as possible, and encourage as many submissions as possible to the following email address: Relay4Life@faithlcs.qld.edu.au

We wish everyone a restful holiday break and look forward to celebrating more achievements next term!

A Night to Remember: 2024 Senior Formal

Last Thursday, 12 September 2024, our Senior students enjoyed a fantastic evening at the Faith Lutheran College Senior Formal, held at the Lockyer Valley Cultural Centre. From the moment students arrived, stepping out onto the red carpet for interviews and photos, the night was filled with elegance and excitement.

Guests enjoyed canapés before speeches and a group photo marked the start of the formal dinner. As the DJ played songs the students had voted for, the dance floor came alive, adding to the fun and excitement. Students also posed for formal photographs and made lasting memories in the photobooth. The night culminated in dancing and celebration, a fitting way to mark this milestone in our students' lives.

We are excited to share a sneak peek of photos from the event, capturing the joy and glamour of the evening. For the full gallery, be sure to visit our Facebook page!
