Wellbeing Wrap

As part of our Resilience Project work in Foundation, we’ve recently explored empathy by revisiting its definition and thinking about things from different perspectives by putting ourselves in other people’s shoes. Empathy is about truly understanding how others are feeling and can lead to increased positivity in yourself. It has a lot to do with listening and requires us to listen first to understand, before listening to respond. We can practise empathy by treating those around us with simple words and acts of kindness.

To further support your child’s exploration of empathy, we’d like to suggest this 'try it at home’ activity:

  1. Get together as a family / household. This may be after dinner or just sitting together in the living room.
  2. Take turns sharing events in your life or parts of your day that made you feel:
    - Joy
    - Excitement
    - Frustration
    - Regret
    - Love
  3. Sharing stories about your past that your children might not be familiar with can help strengthen their feelings of belonging and lead to higher self-esteem and a greater sense of identity

You can implement this concept into your dinner routine by encouraging each person describe a feeling they felt during the day and what made them feel like that. If negative, discuss what did, or could have helped them turn their emotion around to positive.

We would love to see your empathy in action activity at home. Please share some photos or let your child’s teacher know what you have enjoyed about this ‘try it at home’ Resilience Project activity.

Year 7 Classroom Insights – Year 7 Music – Finding Their Rhythm

This term in Music, our Year 7 students have been exploring how music can communicate emotion, tell stories, and reflect personal expression. Students have been developing their understanding of the elements of music through listening, performing, composing, and responding activities.

Throughout the semester, students have explored rhythm, pitch, dynamics, tempo, texture, and structure through a variety of engaging practical experiences. They have worked collaboratively to create short compositions, experimented with body percussion and classroom instruments, and analysed how different musical choices can change the mood and meaning of a piece.

Students have also been building confidence in performance skills, including rehearsal techniques, teamwork, and presenting music to an audience. It has been wonderful to see students stepping outside their comfort zones, supporting one another, and growing in creativity and musical understanding. The students are loving it too:

In this fun term of music, we have been busy making our junk to jam performances including choosing a theme and working on it. Personally, my favorite part of our funky music lessons would be our fun performance preparations. We get to plan, and perform pieces of art – Dillon Burns (7D).

We are incredibly proud of the enthusiasm and energy students have brought to Music this term and look forward to seeing their continued growth throughout the year. A big thank you to Mrs Baker for her work in this space.

Year 8 Classroom Insights – Medieval History

This term in Year 8, we began our semester-long History unit by investigating the life and times of people in Medieval History. Here’s what a few our students from 8E had to say:

In history this term we have been learning about the feudal system and people’s lives in Medieval Europe. We have learned about kings, nobles, knights, peasants, monks, nuns and many more.  My favourite part of History this term so far has been creating the timeline of events that happened during Medieval Europe times and learning the roles of different people in Europe. This has been very interesting to learn about all these people and how they helped to shape the future of Medieval Europe. Audrey M

In History this term we have learned about Medieval Europe, the leaders, and the main significant people. I like History as a subject because we can learn about what life was like back in Medieval Europe and what positions were in feudal society. History is a place where you can learn about events and historical things that happen. This term has been very interesting; I have learnt new things I thought I would never learn. Overall History is a fun subject. Zarli K

In History this term we are learning about a significant person in medieval history. My favourite part about it is how we choose a person like a king or knight that did something significant and research about them and what they did and how they changed history. Matty B
