Term 2 Highlights

Dear Parents and Guardians

There was plenty to celebrate at Faith Lutheran College, Plainland in Term 2!

There are too many outstanding achievements across our College community to list them all, but I would like to share with you the following exciting news from Term 2, 2024.

New College Pastor

In May, we warmly welcomed Ps Nathan Glover as our new College Pastor in a beautiful installation ceremony.

We are blessed to have Ps Nathan join our community, bringing new perspectives and enthusiasm that align perfectly with our mission to foster an environment of faith, learning and growth.

We are excited for the journey ahead with Ps Nathan Glover and are confident that his leadership will guide our students and staff towards enriched spiritual and personal development.

Australian Education Awards

I am thrilled to share that we have been recognised as an excellence awardee for two prestigious awards in the Australian Education Awards 2024!

Awards and Recognition
Category: Innovation in Curriculum Design for Faith Lutheran College, Plainland
Category: Education Rising Star of the Year for Mr Jabez Castray

This is a remarkable achievement for our College and highlights our commitment to pushing the boundaries of educational excellence. This recognition is not just for the awardees, but for all of our hardworking staff members. Every member of our team contributes to creating an environment that challenges the conventional and encourages progressive thinking.

Special thanks to Jen Gibb and her team, whose dedication to teaching and learning continues to lead us forward. Jen’s leadership and the team’s efforts in curriculum development have undoubtedly played a crucial role in garnering this award.

Let us also not forget that this is not our first accolade. Being finalists in 2020 for the Best Non-State Secondary School across Australia underlines our ongoing commitment to excellence.

The winners will be announced at the Australian Education Awards on Friday 9 August 2024.

Yours in Christ,

Project Based Learning

What an incredible first semester it has been at Faith! From start to finish, students have achieved remarkable results both inside and outside the classroom.

At the end of term, numerous events and activities showcased our students' talents. Whether it was at Faith’s Got Talent, the GBC Finals, the Kokoda Challenge or the Ipswich Dance Eisteddfod, our students not only achieved outstanding results but, more importantly, demonstrated incredible commitment and positive risk-taking in developing and sharing their God-given potential.

Another example of students sharing their gifts this semester has been through Wednesday Projects. Students from each project have had the opportunity to showcase their learning. Whether running a fundraising event to support an important cause, operating a market stall to support their entrepreneurial venture, completing an act of service to benefit others, or creating and then sharing a design concept to solve a particular problem, Projects have undoubtedly provided students with access to an incredible range of rich ‘project-based learning’ (PBL) opportunities.

Students will undertake new Projects next semester, where they will once again have the opportunity to engage with the PBL process. This will include the chance for students to help trial, test and reflect on a range of solutions for real-world problems. Student voice and choice will continue to underpin each Project, providing students the opportunity to push their learning and the limits of their chosen design process as far as they are willing.

Semester 2 will also include many important events and activities, providing students numerous opportunities beyond the classroom to deepen their knowledge, skills and abilities while building positive connections with others. Whether through various sporting, cultural or arts-based activities, these opportunities underpin the broad range of learning experiences that help to awaken potential and empower learners at Faith.

Exploring our Christian Faith

A warm welcome to everyone reading this newsletter! It has been a joy and privilege to join the exciting team at Faith Lutheran College, Plainland.

I would like to highlight two outstanding programs that took place in Term 2:

Youth Alpha

We offer students who wish to participate an opportunity to explore the Christian faith through the Youth Alpha course. This course is a stand-out course featured right around the world that explores the basics of the Christian faith in a fun and interactive way. We currently have approximately 75 students participating in this course. Thank you, Ms Mallari, Mr Kent and our student leaders for all that you do in this space!

Kick-Off

The kind people from Word of Life Ministries came on the last day of the term to lead the whole College in inflatable fun together with a Gospel message. Both students and staff let their hair down and had some fun - see the photos below. Some students indicated that they would love to learn more about what it means to follow Jesus.

I wish you and yours the best for Semester 2.

New Student Services and Administration Building underway

We are delighted to announce that the College began works on two important new building projects at Faith Lutheran College, Plainland in June 2024.

The first project is a new Student Services and Administration building that will be located on the left as you first enter the College grounds from Faith Avenue.

The new Student Services and Administration building will include the following features:

  • Improved health centre facilities for students
  • Expanded wellbeing area with multiple rooms for counselling
  • Specialist student support areas
  • Visitors reception and meeting spaces
  • Collaborative staff meeting and social spaces

The second project is an additional car park for use by staff. This new car park will be located to the west of the Sports Centre, where staff currently park on the dirt and grass. Parents and guardians will continue to use the existing bitumen car park at the Sports Centre for parking.

We are fortunate that the State Government has agreed to provide funding to assist with the capital works projects.

We look forward to seeing these projects come to life over the coming months!
