Term 2, Week 2, 2026

ANZAC Commemorations

As we commence Term 2, we are grateful for the many students who represented our school with pride at ANZAC Day parades in Laidley and across the district. Their respectful participation reflected strong values and a deep sense of service.

We are also immensely proud of the conduct shown during our school ANZAC ceremony. Observing students throughout the parade inspired great confidence and optimism — the future is certainly in good hands.

Years 9 & 10 Internal Showcase and Course Information Evening

Wednesday 13 May

Families of Year 8, 9 and 10 students are warmly invited to attend our Internal and External Subject Showcase, designed to support informed decision-making about learning pathways and future directions.

During the school day, students will take part in an internal showcase during Lessons 5 and 6, providing opportunities to explore subject options and speak directly with teachers.

The Course Information Evening will run after school until 7pm, with teachers available in the Sports Centre to discuss the wide range of subjects on offer and answer questions.

Information sessions include:

  • Year 8 & 9 Subject Selection4.30pm, Sports Centre
  • Year 10 Graduate Phase Information5.30pm, Information Hub

Subject selection is a complex process, and these events play a vital role in ensuring students and families feel confident and well informed. Students are currently investigating careers and developing a strong future focus, and families are strongly encouraged to attend.

Accelerated Learning Opportunities

Information will also be provided for students wishing to accelerate their learning.

In coming days, an email will invite interested students — generally Year 9 students — to indicate their intent for early access to Graduate Phase subjects. This may include early entry into VET courses or acceleration in areas of specific interest, offering a valuable head start on senior studies.

Project Spotlight: Community Crusaders

Our Community Crusaders continue to make a meaningful impact through regular service within the local community.

On 31 March, students assisted at the West Moreton Church Rally Day at Peace Lutheran Church, Gatton, serving morning tea and representing the school with pride.

At the end of last term, the group supported the Shave for a Cure fundraiser, raising $1,561.75 for the Leukaemia Foundation through a sweet treat stall, in addition to funds raised by participating students. Thank you to volunteer barbers Krist Klee and Chris Kent for their generous support.

Curriculum Spotlight: Marine Science Camps

Over the past two weeks, 90 Marine Science students attended immersive camps at Hastings Point, gaining firsthand experience of marine environments and strengthening their understanding through hands‑on learning.

The camps were supported by the outstanding facilities and staff at the Hastings Point Discovery Centre, as well as our dedicated teaching and support staff who generously gave their time. These camps were a highlight of the term and a powerful example of learning beyond the classroom.

Student Leader/ Student Shout Outs

Dr Kapp

One of our new teachers this year is Dr Kapp, who is teaching a wide variety of subjects including Maths, Digital Technology and cross curricular courses such as Send in the Drones. He is a super keen runner and showed the Open boys what talent and training can look like on the cross country track. He has also started a run club, proving to be a popular place to be on a Tuesday afternoon.
