This Week in Explo 

In Science, Earth and Space is one of the most challenging strands for providing hands-on experiences, particularly in Year 10, when topics range from theoretical models of the universe's origin to the flow of energy between Earth's spheres. This year, our dedicated Science team decided to address this imbalance by organising a trip to the Planetarium in Brisbane. All Science 2A classes travelled to Mt Coot-tha Gardens and were welcomed by the expert planetarium staff. This provided students with an opportunity to clarify their understanding and gain deeper insight. It also allowed them to visit the Mt Coot-tha Gardens as each group rotated through the Cosmic Skydome.

The Dinosaurs and Megafauna class is also heading to Brisbane this week, this time to the museum, as a culminating task for their course. The highlight is expected to be 'Crocs: Lost giants to living legends', an interactive exhibit offering an opportunity to observe the evolution of a group of organisms over geological time. This, along with "Dinosaurs Unearthed: Explore Prehistoric Queensland", will further demonstrate to students that palaeontology is an awesome science!

CIA Awards 

The CIA teacher award goes to Megan Barrett for being an outstanding community member of this school and making everyone feel welcome. Her energy is infectious.

The CIA student award goes to Jemimah Feeney for her very kind heart and consistent willingness to help others. If you know Jemimah, you will wholeheartedly agree with this.

Pulse champions are Mr Adsett's class – Phase Coach B. You run a tight ship, Mr Adsett, well done.

Project Spotlight 

A number of projects this year are focused on College culture. One of these is the College Yearbook group, which is investigating the possibility of resurrecting the yearbook. Another is College Spirit, which is examining where our College should focus its efforts in the coming years, asking significant questions such as "should we keep the Crusader as our college mascot, and if not, what comes next?". We were privileged to attend a presentation of the data this week. The findings were comprehensively examined and will be presented to the Senior Leadership Team in the coming weeks.

Both projects are student-driven, with decisions being made for our future student bodies. Great work, everyone.

Student Leader/ Student Shout Outs 

This might come as a surprise to those who don't know Sofie Player, but she is a talented artist. Her natural habitat is the Ag plot, but she specialises in drawing wildlife, demonstrating the many facets of all of us. We are in awe, Sofie, keep it up.

Speaking of art, Visual Art students have been working on Zines. If you have never heard of a Zine, you are not alone. Zines can take many forms, from hand-drawn or typed pages to photocopied or digitally designed booklets, and they often feature a mix of text, images, illustrations, and collage.
