Wellbeing Wrap – Foundation Movie Night

Last Friday night, our Foundation Movie Night provided a wonderful opportunity for incoming Years 5 and 6 primary students, future Year 7 Foundation students, and our current Foundation cohort to come together for an evening of fun, laughter and connection. Events such as these play an important role in supporting student wellbeing, by fostering relationships, easing transitions, and building a sense of belonging within our college community.

As students shared snacks, watched Zootopia 2 and spent time together, they practiced important social skills such as inclusion, kindness and respect. These informal settings often allow friendships to grow across year levels and help students feel more connected to one another.

The evening also highlighted the importance of compassion. Students demonstrated care and consideration for those around them by welcoming others into conversations, sharing spaces respectfully and ensuring everyone felt included. Small acts of kindness can have a significant impact and help create a community where all students feel valued and supported.

A special thank you to the staff, Foundation Leaders and our Service Team who helped organise and supervise the event. Their efforts provided a wonderful opportunity for students to connect, strengthen relationships and continue building the caring and compassionate culture that makes Faith Lutheran College such a special place.

Foundation Projects Mid-Year Update

This year, we have changed Projects to be a year-long project. This Semester we have focused on building specific skills aligned to the focus of each Project group before students brainstormed a project they want to undertake this year. Here’s what some our groups have done so far:

Building Bridges

The Building Bridges engineering project has been a fun and engaging experience for our team of four. We have designed blueprints, built mini projects, gained workshop experience and learned outside the regular classroom. For our project, we want to design animal shelters for our community but also research ways we can help our school engage in more events. The teachers are supportive and have made sure we have all the access to the tools we need to succeed in the workshop and real-life. – Aria H + Sienna J

Circuit and Saw

In our project we are aiming to create a boardgame where to sides battle with a variety of battle bots. In today’s lesson we are dedicating our time to other work as the next thing we have is to 3d print our battle bots and our boardgame . The best thing about our projects are the RC cars. So far was the driving and building of our RC cars. We are doing this project so that some people can play our game during lunch times. – Marshall J

Common Threads

In my Common Threads project, we’ve been developing a range of sewing skills, including both hand‑sewing techniques and machine‑sewing methods. These lessons are preparing us for our main task, where my group will design and create handmade toys for a hospital in Toowoomba, contributing something meaningful to children in care. – Stella K

Heart and Harmony

In Week 6, our project, Heart and Harmony, went on an excursion to a church in Toowoomba called Hume Ridge. We learned how music can engage people in services like church and chapel. We also learned about what music we should use. This was very interesting because I learned how people talk about how important the Bible is through songs. – Lillian M

Mind and Motion

In the Mind and Motion project we are planning to visit kindergartens and teach them ball games and other games that will help them with hand eye coordination. This project will benefit the younger people because knowing simple ball games and being able to help them improve their physical health and build relationships with friends. This project so far has been really fun and we are keen to start teaching kids in Term 3. – Riley G

Growing Grounds

My group is building a garden box that we want to have a worm farm in it. We are going to build the box out of wood, using skills of working together and building.  We chose this project so that we could give worms to our school or members the community.  We are planning to sell the worms at a market, and also give them back to the farm, to help with the nutrients in the soil. — Cooper P

Celebrating Students – Class Awards

A big congratulations to this fortnight’s awardees who received an award and an opportunity to celebrate success together and recognise positive choices. Students were invited to have afternoon tea on the A-block balcony with members of Senior Leadership Team and other leaders across the College.
