Wellbeing Wrap – Young People and Body Image
Body image concerns are becoming increasingly common among young people, with research showing that 77% of adolescents experience body image distress. To support our young people to build positive body image early, we are pleased to introduce the Embrace Kids Classroom Program to our Foundation Phase students in Term 3.
The Embrace Kids Classroom Program is grounded in the latest body image research and educational best practice. Aligned with the Australian Curriculum, the program consists of five classroom lessons, each featuring age-appropriate clips from the Embrace Kids film (rated G), accompanied by interactive activities and student workbooks. Throughout the program, students will explore important topics such as:
- Appreciating what their bodies can do, rather than how they look.
- Replacing comparison with self-compassion.
- Celebrating the diversity of all bodies.
- Understanding gender identity and challenging harmful stereotypes.

Supporting Your Child at Home
The conversations children have at home play a significant role in shaping their body image and self-esteem. By reinforcing the messages explored in the Embrace Kids Classroom Program, families can help children develop healthy attitudes towards themselves and others.
Here are some simple ways you can support your child at home:
- Learn together: Build your understanding of positive body image by watching The Embrace Collective's free 5-minute Parent Masterclass and exploring their range of family resources.
- Model positive body attitudes: Be mindful of the way you talk about your own body and the bodies of others. Focusing on what our bodies can do, rather than how they look, helps children develop a healthier perspective.
- Continue the conversation: Consider watching the full Embrace Kids film together as a family. It provides a wonderful opportunity to discuss the themes explored in class and encourage open, supportive conversations about body image, self-acceptance, and respecting others.
Working together, we can help our young people build confidence, resilience, and an appreciation for the uniqueness of every individual.

My name is Gabriella S, and today I will be talking about what Year 7 is doing for HASS this term. Let's get started. This term we are learning about what makes a city/suburb livable. We are learning how factors such as stability, culture, environment, education, and healthcare affect the livability of cities. One of the things we are doing for our assessment is writing a real estate blurb describing how livable a city is and why they should move there. We are also learning about the acronym SPICESS and how geologists use it to analyse the livability of a city/suburb. It is fun, and we are also doing a poster showing what a livable and unlivable city looks like. In short, we are learning what makes a city livable and unlivable. Hope you enjoyed reading.

For this term in HASS, we are learning about liveability and what makes some places better to live in than others. I am enjoying HASS because I find it very interesting. We get to learn what makes a city liveable. I can use this in the future if I want to buy a house one day. I will be able to find the most liveable and sustainable area or city to live. - Tia F

In History we are learning about the Viking era. We have learnt about their society and what type of jobs they had and who they classed as nobles. This subject is really interesting as you get to learn about how they lived and what it was like in their era. You get to learn about their responsibilities they had and what women, Men and children all did during the day. We've learned about timelines like when the Viking era started and when it finished.
