Celebrating Diversity with the Embrace Collective
Through our learning with the Embrace Collective, students have been exploring what makes each person unique and why diversity should be celebrated. Students have reflected on their identity, strengths, values, interests and the qualities that make them who they are.

A key message has been that being different is never a reason to be bullied. Students explored why people may bully others and recognised that bullying is about the choices and actions of the person doing the bullying—not something being “wrong” with the person being targeted.

Students have also considered their God-given strengths and talents. We have explored how God has created each person uniquely, giving us different abilities, interests, personalities and gifts. These differences are valuable and can be used to serve others, contribute to our community and make a positive difference in the world. What makes us different can become one of our greatest strengths.

We have also discussed how identity develops and changes throughout adolescence and across our lives. It is normal for our interests, values and priorities to shift as we grow. 

Families can continue these conversations by asking children what makes them unique, what God-given strengths and talents they recognise in themselves and others, and how they can use these gifts to encourage and support those around them. 

Year 7 Classroom Insights – Novel Studies

In English we are studying novels, pulling them apart and looking at themes, symbolism and genres of a chosen book. I’m studying Percy Jackson and the lightning thief and it’s very fun, I enjoy every Friday when we go to the different classes corresponding to your chosen book, we read the book, answer questions at our own pace and learn lots about our novel and its meaning. We can use this learning in the future by helping to comprehend different life tasks and understand articles or important documents at work or in general. – Jarrah Bloomfield

In Novel studies we are learning how to describe books, learn the point of view of each character and the places in the book depending on what book has been chosen for you. This could be helpful in the future because you might want to become an author and need some ideas from a few books. The idea of most of the books would be to learn why the author made the book and why they made the book about that topic. – Jarrod Gordon

Year 8 Classroom Insights – Flight Plan for 2027

The Year 8 Flight Plan process has been an exciting opportunity for students to begin shaping their journey in Exploration Phase for 2027. In Term 2, students and families attended our Course Showcase Evening, where more than 90 courses were on display. It was awesome to see the 'buzz' this evening brought, as students and parents/carers discussed possible pathways and courses that excited them. This was followed by Straw Polls, which helped us identify the courses generating the most student interest. Some of the most popular choices included Marine Science, Craftsmanship with Timber and Aspire.

During Term 3, families participated in Flight Plan evenings, providing an opportunity to discuss course choices and plans for the years ahead. Students then completed their Flight Plan submissions, and course allocations for Years 9–12 are now being processed. While we cannot guarantee that every student will receive all of their first preferences, many courses can be selected as preferences again in 2028. We look forward to seeing our students continue to explore their interests and make purposeful choices about their learning and thank all families for their support.
